Love Island’s Chris Hughes has opened up about his battle against anxiety attacks, saying that they got so bad that he didn’t even want to go home.

Speaking on Loose Women on Wednesday the 24-year-old – who had previously admitted to battling anxiety during his time on the show – revealed the full extent of the attacks, calling them ‘suffocating’.

‘It actually triggered after a heavy night out…the next day I felt horrific,’ he said.

‘I was going to work but I was getting anxious about being anxious. I was in a nine-to-five job and every time it approached five o’clock I didn’t want to go home, I’d rather have stayed there, it gave me things to think about.’

Chris went on to reveal that while his girlfriend of the time was supportive, he initially tried to deal with the situation on his own – but it wasn’t easy.

‘It was absolutely suffocating, I would do anythng, like go out in the evening and drive my car around to have something to do, to keep myself occupied,’ he explained.

‘But it wasn’t until I spoke to my mum, I [explained] that it was proper, that it was draining me.

‘I was literally on a cricket field and I completely broke down – my breathing went all weird and I had to get off the field.’
