Ta Da! The “Happier in Hollywood” Podcast Is Launched. Green Juice! Mantras! And That Horrible Call from Their Agent.

I’m so excited! Happier in Hollywood just launched — it’s the terrific new podcast that my sister Elizabeth Craft is doing with her longtime writing partner and friend, the brilliant and hilarious Sarah Fain.

Today is my sister’s birthday, so it feels like an auspicious time to start a new project.

As a combo launch day/birthday present, I sent her, Sarah, and their assistant Brook a set of mugs with the Happier in Hollywood logo and the launch date, as pictured above. (Elizabeth loves mugs.)

So what’s the podcast about?

It’s about how to be happier, healthier, saner, more creative, more successful and more productive in a back-biting, superficial, chaotic, unpredictable, and fundamentally insane world of Hollywood. For instance, in the first episode, they interview their agent about the worst call he ever had to make to them.

And while the stories have a special glamour and extreme quality because of the Hollywood setting, and frequent celebrity sightings, the things they deal with are the things all of us deal with.

As they explain: “We’ve seen and experienced a lot in our time in Hollywood. And yes, many of the cliches are true. There are swimming pools and movie stars. But a lot of what we deal with – work/life balance, negotiating office politics, how to work out on a regular basis – is the same whether you’re in Hollywood, Dollywood, or somewhere in between.”

I remember one time Elizabeth wanted to talk on the Happier podcast about getting fired. She asked Sarah if Sarah would mind if she talked about them getting fired, and Sarah asked, “Which time?”

One thing that’s funny for me is that in my family, and in the Happier with Gretchen Rubin podcast, my sister is “Elizabeth.” But everywhere else, she goes by “Liz” — for instance, on Happier in Hollywood , they have a segment called “Liz vs. Sarah.” Do you go by a different name with your family, or with a specific group of friends? That seems pretty common.

If you’re thinking, this podcast sounds great, but sheesh, I don’t know how to listen or subscribe to a podcast, never fear! It’s very easy (it really is easy, I’m not just saying that) and it’s free. Easy instructions here.

If you want to learn some fun facts about Sarah and Elizabeth Liz, and learn more about their long friendship and writing partnership, check out their website. I must say I was a bit of a happiness bully about encouraging them to make their site — and it’s so good! It’s hilarious and gives you such a good sense of both of them.

Happier in Hollywood is part of The Onward Project — the family of podcasts that I’ve launched for podcasts that are about “your life–made better.” Check out Side Hustle School and Radical Candor — both are so terrific. The Onward Project podcasts all have a similar vibe: interesting, practical, fun, and meant to make your life happier, healthier, more productive, and more creative.

Give it a listen! Okay, I know I might be slightly biased, but I do love it.
