Today was a great day for a ride! I did have to take several breaks, but overall it felt like an excellent day!
Continuing down Route 30, there are several markers for the Lewis and Clark Trail. This highway runs alongside their route in several places. The vegetation is lush and the Columbia river runs nearby at the beginning of my ride. Check out the pretty wildflowers near the Twilight Eagle Sanctuary:
I love looking up at the towering pines:
For my first stretch, I rode 4.0 miles, then had to stop and adjust my pedal straps and move my feet around a bit to stop them from going numb. I biked another 1.1 miles before stopping for lunch. After lunch, I got back on and rode 1.8 more miles. Loved this sudden change of view and the mountains in the background.
In case you're interested, here's what I ate today:
black decaf coffee
Breakfast: 2 slices bacon, half an avocado, and a wedge of melon
Lunch: 2 freshly picked tomatoes from a friend's garden, cubed fresh mozzarella, chopped basil leaves, olive oil, salt and pepper
I started having PMS cravings after lunch and had a cheese stick, a pickle, and a chocolate protein bar.
Dinner was leftover spaghetti squash with marinara, 1 meatball, and an Italian sausage. Dessert was a scoop of low carb chocolate ripple ice cream.
After letting my dinner settle, I got back on the bike for a gentle evening ride. I went 2.3 more miles through the forest, making a total of 9.2 miles today... my best day yet! This also marks the day I have less than 3,000 miles left to go. Hey, everyone starts somewhere, right?
I'll leave you with one last scene from the ride along Route 30 in Oregon today. Enjoy!
